The Library building is currently open for in-person browsing and public computer use during our regular library hours.

Please note, in doing our part to curb a post-holiday pandemic surge and to protect the health and well-being of our staff and community members, the library will not be hosting in-person programs between December 27, 2021 and January 14, 2022. Our online program schedule will continue as usual and we plan to resume in-person programs starting Monday, January 15th. Mah-Jongg Club is postponed through February 2, 2022.

Contactless checkout is available for those who prefer it, with items available for pickup from our downstairs lobby.

The children’s room is currently open for one family or caregiver group at a time to accommodate social distancing. Please call us at 518-392-3666 or click the button below to book your visit.

Book Childrens Room Visit

The Children’s Room can be booked in half-hour time increments to accommodate visitors throughout the day and during after-school hours.

Occupancy at the Canaan Library is limited to one patron or family group at a time to accommodate social distancing.

Taking Care of One Another

Masks and social distancing are still required. We are following NYS Health Department guidance, which “strongly recommends masks and six feet of social distancing in indoor settings where vaccination status of individuals is unknown.” We serve everyone, including children and others who are unvaccinated, so in order to make all feel welcome and safe we are continuing to require masks for now.

If you are unable or unwilling to wear a mask or to follow social distancing guidelines, please contact the Library Director ahead of your visit to seek alternative accommodations.

Hand sanitizing stations are located throughout the library and gloves are also available for patrons using computers and browsing the collection.

On the day of your visit, if you are feeling sick, have received a positive COVID-19 test, or have been in close proximity with anyone who’s had a positive COVID-19 diagnosis in the 14 days leading up to your appointment, PLEASE STAY HOME and FEEL BETTER.

Returning Your Library Loans
Items may be returned inside as well as to the outdoor book and media drop. If you’ve borrowed a museum pass, ukulele, or other fragile item, please return in person to the circulation desk staff.
